Car Key Copies In Orem, Utah - Why Not All Vehicles?

Car Key Copies - Who Does This?

While you would think this would be a cut no brainer, you would be surprised how many places do not offer this service.  Home Depot?  They might be able to cut you a new key but programming is out the window and even some of the new car key cuts can't be done here.  Local locksmith once again this depends on what make, model, and year of the vehicle you have.

Why Not All Vehicles Are The Same When It Comes To Car Key Programming

GM, Chevy, Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, and most of the popular vehicle makes and models are fairly easy to program.  When you get into the luxury brands such as BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, and Mercedes they have higher security measures.  While most locksmiths can still make the key cuts and perform the programming it simply isn't worth it.  I know, I know, you are probably thinking "these greedy locksmiths!".  But that's not it all!

So If it's Not Greed Why Do Locksmiths Steer Away From Luxury Brand Key Programming

For most vehicles, we can go in and add a key through the car's computer system, and then we can program a new car key without any risk or difficulty.  So we locksmiths only want easy jobs?  No, that couldn't be any farther from the truth.  The real reason most of us steer away from BMW and other luxury brands is because they continue to monopolize the industry.  They make it harder and harder by adding security pins that nobody seems to have which we found a way to bypass that.  Then they decided to add a code preprogrammed into the key which not even the dealerships usually have, they have to order them from headquarters.  Okay, Okay, we found a way to fix that.  Then they decided to make it harder to program them with extra security and you risk damaging the car's computer system and this is where we are like hmmm maybe enough is enough?  Is it worth programming these keys at 40-50% less than the dealership and we risk being responsible for replacing the car's security system which costs thousands of dollars or our insurance rates increasing for filing claims for these vehicles.

More Risks Of Programming Car Keys For German Vehicles

The other problem with programming german vehicle keys.  You mess up their computer system and they are going to blast you with multiple negative reviews.  This also costs you more money when you lose potential new customers afraid that you will ruin their vehicle's computer.  So it's not that it can't be done by a local locksmith because it can!  But it takes 3-4 times longer than a typical car key programming job.  This once again costs more money and even if you save them money vs going to the dealership you risk them leaving you a bad review over you charging them so much.  So it's just not worth it!  Older ones we do all the time since we overcame their power struggle for monopolizing the industry but these big companies will continue to make it harder and riskier to program them by using a 3rd party.

For 90% Of All Car Key Programming Think Mr Key Locksmith

We save vehicle owners on average 40-50% vs the dealership and you don't have to tow your vehicle to us if you have lost all car keys.  While it may seem strange that locksmiths turn away certain jobs you now understand why.  We will continue to find more ways to safely and effectively program these luxury brand cars but for now, there are still several ones that we have chosen to not touch because Mr Key Locksmith believes in being honest, upfront, and transparent with our customers about the risks involved with programming these types of car keys and it's probably in your best interest to go to the dealership instead of risking time wasted waiting for your car's computer system to be repaired.
